Generation Z is changing the world in unique and powerful ways and making things better for everyone through passionate advocacy and by making their voice heard. Combine that with Gen Z’s uniquely entrepreneurial spirit and you’ve got quite a force to be reckoned with.
While it is impossible to lump all 68 million of them, born between 1996 and 2010, under one label, there are certain characteristics this generation seems to share based on the world they were born into. It should go without saying that they are tech-savvy, but they are also empathetic, entrepreneurial, and very much engaged in their community. According to an Irregular Labs Survey, 75% of respondents said being politically or socially engaged is very important to their identity.
In fact, this generation might take a bigger role in activism and community engagement than we have ever seen, and they have the technological tools and know-how to do it better, faster and more organized than generations that came before them. By engaging with students through our workshops such as “Designing to Make a Difference” or through our work with programs like Fuel Up to Play 60, we get to see firsthand how the people from Generation Z are willing to roll up their sleeves and do the work to make a difference. If we’ve learned one thing through our work with youth, it’s this – empower them to use their voice and they will enact positive change. Regardless what they are using their voice for, you can bet they will be heard loud and clear. Take a look at some of Gen Z’s fiercest activists.
